32nd edition of Marathon des Sables, 6th race of the Ultra-Trail® World Tour

32nd edition of Marathon des Sables, 6th race of the Ultra-Trail® World Tour

For its 32nd edition, more than 1200 participants will rush forward the start of the famous Marathon des Sables in Morocco. 1200 runners, who have the crazy idea to cover 250 kilometers in 6 stages. From April 7th to April 17th, 52 nationalities will be present for this 6th race of the UTWT season and the competition promises to be exciting.

An emblematic race of the Ultra-Trail® World Tour:

Marathon des Sables is an event, which marks the UTWT season every year. The race is grueling but more importantly the race is magic for the runners, who cross part of the Sahara Desert. To cover the 250 kilometers in 6 stages with a stifling heat and to spend the nights at a bivouac make this race iconic.

French women, the favorites for the race:

On the women side, the competition will be certainly incredible. With the first of the UTWT World Ranking, Nathalie Mauclair (FRA), and the sixth, Fernanda Maciel (BRA), the fight will probably be rush. Second and third last year in the Marathon des Sables, they know very well the course and they will make best efforts to become the first.

But they should fear the two French women, real competitors, who hope to defy them. Thanks to her third place in Transgrancanaria HG, Melanie Rousset (10th at UTWT World Ranking) is in good physical shape for the Marathon des Sables. We need to have a look at Emilie Lecomte too, who starts her UTWT season with this race.

El Morabity, towards his 5th win?

Thanks to his four victories on the Marathon des Sables, Rachid El Morabity (MAR) is given as favourite for this race in Morocco.  At home, he wants to continue the feat and to show to his oppenents that he is the strongest.

His three compatriots, Abdelkader El Mouaziz, Mohammed El Morabity and Aziz El Akad will try to stop him. But Rachid is not ready to let his place.

But we shall be watching closely the British, Andrew Symonds, who should increase his efforts to pass the Moroccans. The winner of The North Face Lavaredo Ultra Trail last year can do it.

A big challenge for the finisher:

To finish the Marathon des Sables is a feat for all the runners, who dare on the race every year. But beyond the performance, the time of sharing and of solidarity taking place during the race and on the bivouac offer an incredible experience to the athletes. Marathon des Sables lives every year intensely moments, which share with everyone. That’s why this race is specific.
