Eiger Ultra-Trail 2016

Ultra-Trail® World Tour travelling to Eiger Ultra-Trail®

Ultra-Trail® World Tour travelling to Eiger Ultra-Trail®

Ultra-Trail® World Tour is moving towards Switzerland this week for the 13th stop of the circuit. 779 runners will start Eiger Ultra-Trail® this year and the list of athletes promises a beautiful competition.

Chills guaranteed:

Eiger Ultra-Trail® is a mythical race of Ultra-Trail® World Tour. The runners evolve in a captivating environment with the sounds of the bells of the Swiss cows. Switzerland is well represented thanks to many spectators, who come every year to encourage the athletes. That is why the atmosphere of the race is warm.

The runners will start at Grindelwald and after 101 kilometers, they are back to the little Swiss city, which is the meeting place of the climbers. The runners can appreciate the famous walls of the White Spider and they can admire a breathtaking panorama and a beautiful view on the massif. The race brings different sports together and a beautiful story is written every year at Eiger Ultra-Trail®.

The title holders will be competing for a second title:

Andrea HUSER and Diego PAZOS have more in common than they even know. Two friends, two Swiss, two winners of Eiger Ultra-Trail and an exceptional track record on Ultra-Trail® World Tour.

With an average of 5 UTWT races per year, Andrea HUSER is without any doubt one of the most assiduous woman of the circuit. And in addition to her involvement for trail running, her performances are plainly unbelievable. With four victories on Ultra-Trail® World Tour since its creation and many 2nd places, she is considered as a Big Lady of the discipline. At home, in Switzerland, she will try and maintain her momentum (1st at MIUT, 2nd at Transgrancanaria HG, 10th at Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run).

Diego PAZOS, the “bow tie” man is used to Ultra-Trail® World Tour. Currently 8th at UTWT World Ranking, a new victory on Eiger Ultra-Trail® would allow him to approach the 7th place and to establishing himself as the man of the race. Unfortunately he is still injured and can’t start the 101 kilometers. He will be on the 51 kilometers.

The two pillars of Ultra-Trail® World Tour wrote a beautiful story last year in their country and they want to do the same this year.

On their way, many athletes want to take their place:

On a technical course with steep slopes and with occasional snow, the runners should push their physical limits to win in Grindelwald but they all want to be on the top of the podium on Saturday.

On the women side, Denise ZIMMERMANN (SUI) and Ildiko WERMESCHER (GER) respectively 9th and 10th of the UTWT World Ranking will be the main competitors of Andrea this weekend. They have both experiences on the races of Utra-Trail® World Tour and can surprise us.

On the men side, the level is impressive this year on the Swiss race. Between Gediminas Grinius (1st at UTWT World Ranking), Jordi GAMITO (12th at UTWT World Ranking) and Sange SHERPA (23rd at UTWT World Ranking), the experience can play in the final verdict. Tim OLSON (USA), winner of Penyagolosa Trails this year will also be on the start line like Daniel JUNG (ITA), 2nd of Vibram Hong Kong 100 Ultramarathon at the beginning of the season.

At Eiger Ultra-Trail®, Thomas EVANS (GBR) is one of the most dangerous outsiders for the victory. After his great first experience on Ultra-Trail® World Tour at Marathon des Sables, where he finished 3rd, Thomas is coming on the race sharp and with a lot of passion.

How to follow the race?
