Argentina & Croatia to start April on UTWT!
A long distance first weekend of April for Ultra-Trail World Tour !
April started with style! Two 100-mile races were scheduled 13.000km from each other. Runners were on the start line at the same time in San Martin de Los Andes for Patagonia Run and in Croatia for the 100 Miles of Istria.
Some outstanding landscapes and great performances!
100 MILES OF ISTRIA
The 100 Miles of Istria let European runners discover beautiful valleys in the North West of the country. A technical course, then fast, is offered to the runners ready to pass through the medieval villages of the region.
Paul Giblin, British athlete supported by Ultra-Trail® World Tour, won the race after leading early on the course. After finishing 3rd last year, he wins in 2018 in 21:06:53. Longer times than in 2017 on a course that changed and offers more elevation gain.
The Italian Luca Moro (21:36:32) and Hungarian Péter Gyurko (21:50:53) complete a very international podium!
In the women race, Francesca Canepa (Italy) defends her title in a good way by winning in 22:49:33, in front of Katja Kegl Vencelj (Slovenia).
Some great performances to start the season on this long distance!
PATAGONIA RUN MOUNTAIN HARDWEAR
Another 100 Miler but on the other side of the world: Patagonia Run, the only Ultra-Trail World Tour race organized in South America.
In San Martin de los Andes, some 150 athletes took part to this 2018 edition. The race is getting more international year after year but remains a pillar of Argentinian events.
And local runners have dominated once again, with a hat-trick in the men’s race and 2 Argentinian women in the top 3. For the men Gustavo Reyes and Maximiliano Lopez finished after 21h and 15 minutes, followed after 20 minutes by Sergio Trecaman, the defending champion.
In the women’s race, Claudia Ramirez, in 24h and 21 minutes, beats Eliana Marinero (26:41) and the Brasilian Rosalia De Guarischi (27:09).
In total, 89 runners finished the spectacular course, with exceptional points of view of the Argentinian Patagonia!
MARATHON DES SABLES
Don’t forget that you can follow Marathon des Sables all week long on UTWT and the race social media!
A lot of emotions to live in April for the runners of the Ultra-Trail World Tour!
