At Lavaredo, the French had the final word

At Lavaredo, the French had the final word

Breathtaking landscapes, a singular race with surprises and happy athletes on the finish line… All the ingredients were there to live a beautiful event this weekend and indeed, it was great. At the North Face® Lavaredo Ultra Trail, we discovered new faces and we can appreciate the talent of many Elite athletes, who was present in Italy.

Caroline Chaverot

Caroline Chaverot, the winner of The North Face Lavaredo Ultra Trail

Caroline Chaverot, back at the highest level on Ultra-Trail® World Tour:

“I felt good, I had the impression to do a beautiful race” said us Caroline CHAVEROT (FRA) just after her victory at The North face® Lavaredo Ultra Trail. Always humble and modest, she was right. However, the season of Ultra-Trail® World Tour did not start very well for Caroline. The fact she did not finish Transgrancanaria HG has quickly been forgotten this Saturday thanks to her clear victory. Despite a good resistance of Ruth CROFT (NZL) at the beginning of the race, Caroline has increased the gap with her main competitor. She even takes the 12th place overall of the Italian competition.

Ruth finished 2nd of the race and she had one of her most beautiful performances on the Ultra-Trail® World Tour in 14h51m36s. She gets ahead of the Italian Lisa BORZANI, who crossed the finish line in third position after an uncertain race with Maud GOBERT (FRA) and Ewa MAJER (POL), who were after her.

A race with surprises on the men side:

The final victory was stressing and many favorites have failed. However, Pau CAPELL (SPA) looked very well on the course even with a race record but fate had other plans. He led throughout the race but he took the decision to drop out at the 95th kilometer due to stomach issues.

Fabien ANTOLINOS (FRA) seized his chance and he enjoyed his first victory on Ultra-Trail® World Tour. A bit of bluff of the French? Perhaps according to him: “I did not really believe that I could win. In the last kilometers of the race, I played poker with Seth because I accelerated whereas my legs were sore like his.”. The strategy worked and he finished as the winner of the North Face® Lavaredo Ultra Trail in 12h32m35s in front of Seth SWANSON (USA), who has shown us good qualities. The American was close to the victory but he can however take comfort because he directly enters at the 4th place of the UTWT Annual Ranking thanks to his 6th place at Vibram Hong Kong 100 Ultramarathon and thanks to his performance of the weekend.

A new face made its debuts this week end on the Ultra-Trail® World Tour. He finished 3rd of the race and his name is Erik-Sebastian KROGVIG. The Norwegian is really pleased of his third place and he hopes to be in a good shape at Eiger Ultra-Trail® in three weeks.

The winner of Lavaredo, Fabien ANTOLINOS, directly enters at the 3rd place of the Annual Ranking with for example his 7th place at MIUT.

On the women side, Lisa BORZANI has impressed this weekend and she jumps to the 4th place of this Ranking. Besides her 3rd place at The North Face® Lavaredo Ultra Trail, she finished 8th of the Transgrancanaria HG.
