Best memory from trail-running:
The arrival in Chamonix after winning CCC, which included a lot of effort from myself and my family. It was a nice moment that I will never forget.
Why have you chosen this sport?
Because it is really simple and I love simple things. You can practice everywhere with minimal material. It’s the most genuine sport you can do and it’s the sport that can satisfy your mind and your soul at the same time.
How long have you been running (ultra-) trail races?
For 3 years. My first ultra trail race was Transvulcania in 2013. At the finish line I said it would be my first and last one. But one hour later I was thinking about the next. From that moment on it was like a drug.
Which is your favourite race of the UTWT? And why?
For the moment UTMB is my favourite because it’s the most emblematic race. But then again I can’t really form a proper opinion because I should first race all of them to have a real point of view.
Do you have any recommendations for preparing/running an ultra-trail?
The most important thing for me is the process. Everyday, enjoying everyday. To train hard but to also be happy with the daily routine. When it becomes an obligation it is dangerous.
What is your favourite proverb?
Enjoy every day. Be part of the nature.
Do you have a habit you always follow before a race?
It’s important to be serious about your routines but it also depends on the place where the race is. And sometimes it’s difficult. But I try to be happy and to adapt to the conditions.
