Tarawera Ultramarathon, Second race of the Ultra-Trail® World Tour!
The second stage of the 2019 Ultra-Trail® World Tour circuit ended last Saturday in New Zealand!
It was the eleventh edition of the Tarawera Ultramarathon, 102 km with a positive elevation of 3089 meters which offered a very hard race from the beginning to the end!
It started early Saturday morning at 6am in the Bay of Plenty… At the kick off we could see Ryan Sandes, Jeff Browning, Amanda Basham, Cody Reedas well as Courtney Dauwalter and Sangé Sherpa to represent The Ultra-Trail® World Tour !
Concerning the men, Cody Reed and David Byrne lead the race during the first kilometers, but it won’t last! Reece Edwards joins them before taking the lead. Slowly but surely, he goes ahead of Cody Reed, second, who, even though he’s giving everything, won’t be able to catch him!
The Australian, unknown from the ultra-trail world wins the race, which is also his first 100 kilometers, in 08 : 22 : 51. Tired of running marathons he challenged himself: run the Tarawera Ultramarathon. Cody finishes second again this year.
For the women, it’s Courtney Dauwalter, third of the 2018 ranking of the Ultra-Trail® World Tour, who sets the tone from the outset. She’s followed closely during more then 30 km before widening the gap and gaining a few minutes. The American arrives first after 09 : 28 : 03, in front of the Australian, Stephanie Auston and the French Angélique Paire, who finish in 09:43 and 10:39 respectively.
