What a race on Tarawera Ultra Marathon!
The 2nd step of the Ultra-Trail® World Tour took place in Rotorua, New Zealand, this weekend (February 10th-11th). 2 days marked by the Maori’s culture and the great landscapes in the kiwi’s country.
Between the mud and the roots..
It was an amazing weekend for New Zealand to welcome the 2nd stage of UTWT. In the middle of the summer, the weather conditions were difficult with heavy rain, mud, slippery rocks and roots along the race. Nevertheless, the Maori festive spirit and the warm welcome from organisers allowed athletes to start the 100Km race in good conditions.

Kelly Wolf: first participation, first victory!
It was the first time that the American athlete ran the Tarawera UltraMarathon. She had to face the 2-time champion, Roby MUIR, for more than 30Km, but, at last, there was no real battle. Indeed, Kelly WOLF won by herself after these 30Km, where she decided to speed up in front of Roby Muir. It is her first international-class win. In third position during 41Km, Amanda BESHAM (USA) finished at the 2nd place because Roby Muir gave up. Finally, Erika LORI (AUS) concluded her race at the 3rd place. The weather was very wet and the pathway through the mud was not easy.

3- Erika LORI – AUS (10:53:20)
Dylan Bowman: second time!
The 102Km race was engaged with four runners during 50Km. It was fast, very fast until the first aid station (10,5Km). Cody REED (USA), Vlad SHATROV (AUS), Dylan BOWMAN (USA) and Sam McCutcheon (NZL) joined it in only 37 minutes. A few hours later, it’s finally, Dylan BOWMAN who moved up at 1st place (after 58Km) until the end.. The gap between him and Cody REED was very short and the battle very hard. But Dylan successfully achieved the race and won for the second time the Tarawera Ultramarathon. Sam McCutcheon, the local athlete, completed the podium, 18 minutes after Bowman and only 9 behind Cody Reed.
