The North Face® 100 Australia – Results
The North Face® 100 Australia marked the 5th visit of the Ultra-Trail® World Tour in 2015.
Conditions in Australia can be tough any time of the year. And the race did indeed see a high number of runners abandoning the competition.
The elite field proved to be of top-notch in 2015. Tarawera Ultramarathon winner Dylan Bowman (USA) alongside (still young) legends like François d’Haene (FRA) & Julien Chorier (FRA). And of course one also had to count with local trail stars like Brendan Davies (AUS), Andrew Tuckey (AUS), Scott Hawker (NZL) & Vajin Armstrong (NZL). On top of that some of the asian elite joined the circus!
Lots of stairs, and stairs ..and stairs awaited the runners. Challenging the quads and minds of the athletes!
In the end Dylan Bowman (USA) delivered an other world-class performance in a stunning new course record of 8:50:13.
He was followed only 6 minutes later by Scott Hawker (NZL) in 8:56:19 and another 5 minutes later by Yan-Qiao Yun (CHN) in 9:01:29 to complete the podium.
In the womens competition Dong Li (CHN) proved to be unbeatable. Finishing the race in 11:05:22 (28th overall), she won about 22 minutes ahead of runner up Amy Sproston (USA).
Local ultra-runner Shona Stephenson completed the podium in a time of 11:47:02.
In the overall ranking of the UTWT Antoine Guillon (540) is now in the lead. He is closely followed by Cyril Cointre (505) and Christophe Le Saux (414). All are from France.
For the women Dong Li (599) has now taken over the lead. With her third appearance in the UTWT in 2015 she is currently far ahead of chasers Nuria Picas-Albets (395) in 2nd place and Shona Stephenson (316) in 3rd.
With just 6 weeks to go until the Western States 100 Miles Endurance Run & The North Face® Lavaredo Ultra-Trail® many runners are already preparing for their next adventure.
Keep up the great work!
