MIUT and Penyagolosa Trails, two fascinating races of Ultra-Trail® World Tour

Andrea HUSER, Gemma ARENAS ALCAZAR, François D’HAENE and Timothy OLSON. These 4 talented athletes just marked the 7th and the 8th races of the Ultra-Trail® World Tour 2017. The 588 finishers of MIUT in Portugal and the 466 finishers of Penyagolosa Trails in Spain have enjoyed the landscapes and the atmosphere of their race. Look back at these two events!

D’HAENE and HUSER, the bosses of MIUT:

With the best ultra-trailers of the world, MIUT made a strong impression this year and the competition exceeded our expectations.

François D’HAENE (2nd at the UTWT World Ranking) won the race by beating the race record of Zach Miller, winner last year, with more than 30 minutes. But this victory was not easy to get. For almost five hours, François shared the head of the race with Pau CAPELL, the winner of Transgrancanaria HG and 7th at the UTWT World Ranking. They surpassed their limits and Pau pushed François to win his sixth victory on the Ultra-Trail® World Tour since its creation. The UTWT winner 2014 is back at the top level and he does not want to stop here with The North Face Lavaredo Ultra Trail et UTMB® later in the season.

Pau CAPELL found someone stronger than him but finished second. Xavier THEVENARD took the third place despite a difficult start. The first three athletes show us their commitment to move forward on the path of UTWT victory. We can’t wait to see that.

On the women side, Andréa HUSER (3rd at the UTWT World Ranking) was the boss of MIUT this year and crushed the competition. In control during all the race, she had the time to enoy the beautiful landscapes with for example the view Pico Do Arieiro. Second last year behind Caroline CHAVEROT, Andrea hoped to win the MIUT this year and it is done! Please note that her next goal on the series is the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run.

The British, Beth PASCALL, and the Italian, Lisa BORZANI complete the TOP3 of the Portuguese race to the delight of all.

Penyagolosa Trails, a race full of twists:

Spanish girls dominated at Penyagolosa at Penyagolosa Trails this year. Gemma ARENAS ALCAZAR is the champion in front of his compatriots Maria Mercedes PILA and Leire MARTINEZ HERRERA. But the competition was tight between the girls.

On the men side, two runners had to drop out of the middle of the race and the competition took a new direction. Whereas he was the first during the first part of the course, Didrik HERMANSEN (3rd at the UTWT World Ranking) was forced to abandon just like Fluvio DAPIT (ITA), who finished third. Timothy OLSON took advantage of the situation and won with emotion the title of champion of Penyagolosa Trails in front of two Spanish, Yeray DURAN LOPEZ et Remi QUERAL IBANEZ.
