New record in Russia!
Last weekend the Ultra-Trail® World Tour was back after 4 months of interruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For this occasion we were in Russia at the start of the Golden Ring Ultra-Trail®! Health measures adapted to the safety of the participants were of course put in place by the organizers to ensure a safe event for everyone.
It was at 5am on Sunday July 19th in Suzdal that the runners set off for a 107 km race and 1000 M+. The athletes had to contend with humid and cloudy conditions, with patches of rain and tall grass on the track providing additional challenges along the way. The local athletes performed brilliantly!
In the men’s race, the competition was fierce throughout, but it was Konstantin Ivanov from Perm whose excellent performance and tenacity held out in the end. This is no doubt due to his impressive training regime during lockdown, when he managed to run 100km in his very own apartment in only 9 hours and 6 minutes! Ivanov gradually increased his pace over the very long distance and managed to break away from his closest pursuer, Ivan Motorin, in the final section of the race, crossing the line with an impressive time of 8:53:12 and smashing the existing track record.
In the women’s race, it was young athlete Antonina Yushina from Chelyabinsk who was crowned winner, and who also achieved a brand-new track record on the course. She established a good lead right from the start and maintained her advantage over the entire race. Unhindered by the tall grass and forest thickets, Yushina crossed the line with a fantastic time of 9:52:39, taking 9th place overall.
1 – Konstantin Ivanov – 08:53:12
2 – Ivan Motorin – 09:03:09
3 – Nikolay Yanalov – 09: 08:02
1 – Antonina Yushina – 09:52:39
2 – Olga Veselkina – 10:15:07
3 – Elena Nechaeva – 11:36:13
Congratulations to all the runners of the 6th edition of the Golden Ring Ultra-Trail®.
See you in September at Ultra-Trail® Harricana™!
The next race on the 2020 circuit of the Ultra-Trail® World Tour is the Ultra-Trail® Harricana™.
We look forward to seeing you in La Malbaie, Quebec in September. Following the COVID-19 pandemic in Quebec, the number of athletes will be limited and many protocols will be put in place to respect social distancing and limit interactions between runners, volunteers and team members.
We look forward to it!
