The North Face® Transgrancanaria – Results
The North Face® Transgrancanaria marked the 3rd visit of the Ultra-Trail® World Tour in 2015.
Conditions proved to be quite challenging this year. With warm temperatures and strong winds blowing sand over from the Saharan desert to Gran Canaria, the runners had to be at their best.
The elite athlete field was even stronger in 2015 compared to the last edition. And with so many potential TOP3 runners in the front, there had to be some carnage. Elites like Yan-Long Fei & Iker Karrera had to abandon the race due to fatigue or other issues.
But it wasn’t only the temperatures that challenged the trail runners. The course of The North Face® Transgrancanaria is known to be a rather technical one. With long climbs and ascents riddled with cacti and loose stones, nobody could afford to neglect focus.
In the end Lithuanian Gediminas Grinius took out the competition in a stunning new course record of 14:23:37.
He was followed by Didrik Hermansen (NOR) in 14:30:07 & Antoine Guillon (FRA) in 14:39:35 to complete the podium.

Dong Li, an uprising young ultra runner from China, also showed a strong performance finishing 3rd in a time of 18:15:55.

For the women Núria Picas (395) has now taken over the lead. With her second appearance in the UTWT 2015 Dong Li (379) is currently in 2nd place, followed by Caroline Chaverot (237).
With just 4 weeks to go until the Marathon des Sables in Morocco many runners are already preparing for their next adventure. This race is also a SERIES event in the UTWT calendar and provides another chance to elite runners to gather a solid number of points for the overall UTWT ranking.
Keep up the great work!
