September, 10th 2016 – Jean-François Cauchon, 23 years old, from Québec, won the 125 km long TransCharlevoix race of the Ultra-Trail Harricana du Canada on Saturday afternoon. 12 hours and 54 minutes to finish the most important trail running race of Québec.

This is a big surprise for Jean-François, who did not expect to win. “I was just hoping for a time of 15 hours to finish the race, but I felt good so I ran hard, he said at the finish line. I have been leading since km28, so I could imagine I would win. I had to avoid the come back of the second runner!”

« This is an incredible satisfaction! It is indefinable, I am super happy with my race », also said Jean-François in the minutes following his win.

For the women, the Ultra-Trail Harricana 2016 was won by Jessy Forgues, 31 years old, from Ascot Corner. She finished in 14 hours and 41 minutes. It is important to note that, not only Jessy finished 1st woman, but also 3rd overall, which is rare and noteworthy!

« I am very proud, I did not expect this!, she said just after her arrival. This is a great course, it was my first time here. On the Mount Morios, in the middle of the night, I turned my frontal light off, I was covered in stars, it was amazing!”

A record number of runners took part to one of the six races of the Ultra-Trail Harricana du Canada, presented by The North Face, at Mont Grand-Fonds ski resort, in La Malbaie, in Charlevoix. More than 1400 coureurs took part to the event this year!

This 5th edition was also the first participation of the race to the Ultra-Trail World Tour (UTWT), the most prestigious series of trail running races in the world. The director of the UTWT, Jean-Charles Perrin, was invited in Canada. He took part to the 28k race.

M. Perrin had laudatory words for the organization and gave feedbacks that will help Ultra-Trail Harricana to definitely find its place in the UTWT family.

The Ultra-Trail Harricana is proud to announce that the runners collected $20.000 for the fight against the multiple sclerosis. Since the foundation of the event, 5 years ago, more than $65.000 have been given for the research and the support to the affected people. The UTHC thanks all the donors.

In just 5 years, the UTHC became leader in the trail running community. 3-time winner of the best sports event award in Eastern Canada, awarded by the readers of Get Out There magazine, it is the completion of the running season for hundreds of athletes.

Trail running is a growing sport in Québec. Tired of road running, runners go into mountains to be closer to nature and discover new feelings.

The “ultra races” phenomenon is also in vogue. The UTHC proposed 125k, 80k and 65k races.

The organizers announced a new distance for 2017: a 42k marathon.
