UTA 100 km – Race report
“I will not stop until I get it” – Pau Capell
These words were pronounced by the Spaniard Pau Capell just a few days before the race on his facebook page. Even if the 24-year old was talking about his life goals in general, he did it for real last Saturday at Ultra-Trail Australia 100 km race in the Blue Mountains !
Pau Capell realized a fantastic performance, defeated a well-credentialed international field of elite athletes in Australia. Although he has only been running ultra-marathons for three years, he finished in 9:20:14 ahead of Australia’s Ben Duffus in 9:39:25 and Yun Yanqiao of China in 9:42:09.
Woman, woman, woman
In the women’s 100km field, Beth Cardelli made a triumphant return to the event and finished 1st in 11h16’14, ahead of Fiona Hayvice (NZL) in 11h33’13 and Kellie Emmerson (AUS) in 11h53’30.
The energy at the finish line
We could feel an amazing atmosphere at the Ultra-Trail Australia ! The commentators, lights, cheering spectators and massive finish arch make the final moments of the race memorable. The excitement and positive energy makes even the toughest of folks well up a little.
Thousands of runners got to run over some of the iconic features of the National Park of Blue Mountains landscapes ! And the event isn’t just about the pointy end. Organizers stayed and welcomed runners till the final competitor finished.
