Vibram® Hong Kong 100 2016 – Results

Winning return for François D’Haene on the Ultra-Trail® World Tour !

The 2016 edition of the Ultra-Trail® World Tour started this weekend at the Vibram® Hong Kong 100. A high-level group of athletes had decided to take part to this first stage, with more than 1.800 runners!

Climate predictions promised a challenging race with negative temperatures at certains points of the course. Conditions have been difficult, particularly during the night spent on the track by most of the runners.

A lot of people came to applause the runners at the start of the race. It is interesting to note that 44 countries were represented at the start line. Proof that this first stage of the Tour is an important race!

Runners started extremely fast. At the front François D’Haene and Long-Fei Yan went out of a group of 10 runners soon enough in the race for a tight battle until the end.

Indeed François took the lead after the last checkpoint, 10 kilometers before the finish line. He finished the race in an exceptional time of 9:32:26, setting the new record of the event.

Long-Fei Yan (9:37:17) and Gediminas Grinius (9:53:51) complete the podium under the 10 hours. Only 6 runners have been able to run that fast in the history of the Hong Kong race!

In the women’s race, Dong Li ran in front most of the time. Feeling very fit, the Chinese wins in 12:05:32 (25th overall) and is already in the lead of the general ranking of the Tour. Behind her the Italian Lisa Borzani (12:30:41) and the Spanish Silvia Trigueros-Garrote (12:34:23), who ran together for a while, complete the podium.

The end of the race was rythmed by difficulties imposed by climate conditions. The runners were arriving at the last checkpoints completely freezed. This is why Janet and Steve, the organizers, decided to stop the race before term. We congratulate all the runners for their bravery and hope everyone is feeling well today!
