The Ultra-Trail® World Tour continues in Canada

This weekend will see the Ultra-Trail® World Tour 2020 circuit continue with the Ultra-Trail Harricana™ taking place on Sunday 13th September in La Malbaie, Canada. In light of the ongoing health context, this year’s edition of the race will be adapted accordingly, with various protocols in place to respect social distancing and the safety of everyone involved. The number of runners, volunteers and team members will be limited, with only athletes from Canada allowed to participate in this year’s event. The health plans for the race have now been given the green light from the Quebec Ministry of Public Health and have been shared with the athletes taking part.

We are taking the situation very seriously and everyone’s health is our priority,” said Marline Côté, General Manager of the Ultra-Trail Harricana™ of Canada. “We are confident that we can carry out this event in an ethical and responsible manner.

After several weeks of reflection, and in light of the most recent developments regarding the COVID-19 situation in Quebec, the Ultra-Trail Harricana ™ of Canada team has decided that only the long-distance races (65km, 80km and 125km) will go ahead.

With social-distancing and sanitary rules being more difficult to enforce on the shorter distances, participants registered in the 28km, 20km, 10km, and 5km have been invited to participate in the “Harricana All Summer Long” event.

The defending champion of the UTHC, Guillaume Barry, will be amongst the elites competing in the longest race. Last year, he achieved his best performance to date with a finish time of 13:55. Will he be able to beat his own record? Amongst the women, Alicia Woodside, who has 3 victories to her name, as well as 10 placements in the top 3 and 18 in the top 10, will participate in the 125k race.

The Ultra-Trail Harricana™ is an authentic and challenging journey through Canada’s wilderness. A well-balanced course in which both speed and technical skill come into play, the starting line will be set in the wild and rugged backcountry of Charlevoix.

The runners will have to cross several lakes and en route may get the chance to encounter typical Canadian wildlife such as beavers, porcupines and moose. There will be four climbs to tackle in the course: Mount Lac-à-L’Empêche and Mount Morios, with their breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area, the Noyée mountain, with its ridge shaped like a woman floating on water, and lastly the Noire mountain, set on trails specially developed by the Harricana team, which provide beautiful vistas of Mont Grand-Fonds.
